Alexey Lantsev - Painting exhibition "The Form of relations" @ Red Bridge Gallery (Vologda, Russia)

ALEXEY LANTSEV

"Art is an adventure in an unknown world being undertaken by those only who are ready to take risks"

Vital, light, colorful - the paintings of the artist are perceived that way at first glance. Lantsev frees the audience from the hardships of life honouring the harmony of color, its possibilities and the atmosphere created by its combinations. Important sources for both his figurative and abstract canvases are important modernists,  such as Henri Matisse, Willem de Kooning, Joan Miro and Georg Baselitz.

However, there is a fine proportion of logic and emotionality behind the major fret of each work by Alexey Lantsev. Landscapes painted in Italy, France, Portugal, Georgia or Turkey embody the experience of an observer artist. His creative impulse is preceded by peering into the landscape, building plans, composition calculation and a mathematical approach to creating the structure of space. Behind the color saturation of the paintings there is a long mental work and a lot of sketches. That is why color planes, strokes and lines arranged as if abstractly and slightly chaotically create a three-dimensional environment where distances, the trajectory of movement and the extent of physical objects are felt.

The special value of Alexey Lantsev's painting lies in the fact that the viewer is not offered to evaluate the complex mental work behind each work. All we see is a harmonious image, the space that can be explored with a glance – but this would be impossible without the author's intention and conscious alignment of each composition.
